I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.

Λογίζομαι γὰρ ὅτι οὐκ ἄξια τὰ παθήματα τοῦ νῦν καιροῦ πρὸς τὴν μέλλουσαν δόξαν ἀποκαλυφθῆναι εἰς ἡμᾶς.

For the creation waits in eager expectation for the children of God to be revealed.

For the creation waits with eager longing for ^bthe revealing of the sons of God.

ἡ γὰρ ἀποκαραδοκία τῆς κτίσεως τὴν ἀποκάλυψιν τῶν υἱῶν τοῦ θεοῦ ἀπεκδέχεται·

For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope

For the creation ^cwas subjected to futility, not willingly, but ^dbecause of him who subjected it, in hope

τῇ γὰρ ματαιότητι ἡ κτίσις ὑπετάγη, οὐχ ἑκοῦσα ἀλλὰ διὰ τὸν ὑποτάξαντα, ▼

the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the freedom and glory of the children of God.

ὅτι καὶ αὐτὴ ἡ κτίσις ἐλευθερωθήσεται ἀπὸ τῆς δουλείας τῆς φθορᾶς εἰς τὴν ἐλευθερίαν τῆς δόξης τῶν τέκνων τοῦ θεοῦ.

We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time.

For we know that ^hthe whole creation ⁱhas been groaning together in the pains of childbirth until now.

οἴδαμεν γὰρ ὅτι πᾶσα ἡ κτίσις συστενάζει καὶ συνωδίνει ἄχρι τοῦ νῦν·

Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption to sonship, the redemption of our bodies.

And not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have ^jthe firstfruits of the Spirit, ^kgroan inwardly as ^lwe wait eagerly for adoption as sons, ^mthe redemption of our bodies.

For in this hope we were saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what they already have?

For ^pin this hope we were saved. Now ^qhope that is seen is not hope. For who hopes for what he sees?

τῇ γὰρ ἐλπίδι ἐσώθημεν· ἐλπὶς δὲ βλεπομένη οὐκ ἔστιν ἐλπίς, ὃ γὰρ βλέπει ▼

τίς ἐλπίζει;

But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently.

But if we hope for what we do not see, we ^swait for it with patience.

εἰ δὲ ὃ οὐ βλέπομεν ἐλπίζομεν, δι᾽ ὑπομονῆς ἀπεκδεχόμεθα.

In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.

Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For ^twe do not know what to pray for as we ought, but ^uthe Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.

Ὡσαύτως δὲ καὶ τὸ πνεῦμα συναντιλαμβάνεται ▼

ὑπερεντυγχάνει στεναγμοῖς ἀλαλήτοις,

And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.
